More fitting problems. The bonnet rail is supposed to screw between the dashboard and the bulkhead. Even with the dashboard out you cannot push the rail tighter to line up the holes as the bulkhead is in the way!!!!
Also, the stupid little cable clips do not stick for long, they arenallnfalling off. These Altaya kits are rubbish.
The hole on one of the hinges was too small for the screen even after clearing the paint away. The instructions 88B say sd04 but I suspect they mean sd08 as these are not used and would be a better support for the hinge and its need to turn freely.

I'm awaiting parts for mine so I haven't reached that stage yet to see how it pans out.

It's really bad. The bulkhead didn't fit properly and had to be held with glue. I suspect it is the poor moulding of the bulkhead that is stopping the hinge mounting plate going in. The SD08 screws have no mention in the instructions. There is just enough SD04s to follow instructions to the letter, but no spare. Neither SD04 or SD08 screw through the hinge and mounting plate in a suitable way to hold the hinge and have movement for opening the bonnet. The springs sent were also wrong as they are supposed to be the same, but at least that is an easy fix. See picture.

Right. My initial fury has subsided. I cut down the dodgy spring, fixed. I drilled out the hole in the dodgy hinge, just clearing the paint wasn't enough, thenother hinge was ok!, fixed. I had to remove the bulkhead and cut away part of the ridge that goes around the edge. It then fitted snug enough to attach the dashboard and get the hinge mounting plate to line up. See picture.
Shouldn't really have needed to do all this when spending this amount of money on a kit!

Up until now I would agree. But pack 11 has been a pain. As an admin you would obviously support the product!

Hi HMS Vic

I`m not building the Beetle, but feel that you may do well to read the instructions for stage 88 again as the information you have put up about your issue is totally incorrect.

The parts list for stage 88 state:

88-6 SD04 screws x6
88-7 SD11 screws x2
88-8 SP14 screws x4

Each hinge uses SD04 screws x3 in step 88B and 88D, which equals 6 in total when you repeat the actions for the second hinge.

In stage 88G you use SD11 screws x2.

In stage 88I you use SP14 screws x4.

That totally matches the list of parts supplied and there is no mention of SD08 screws that you stated in your first post.

It may also help people to assist you if you format yours pictures so they can appear on the forum and not be downloads.

I ended up using the screws as they are in the instructions once I modified the parts to make them fit! Don't know what the SD08s are for! Will look at the picture shrinking.

I stand corrected. I’ll go back and delete the irrelevant posts.

Please follow Derek’s suggestions about posting pictures. That alone will go far in helping you.

1st pic is the bulkhead in place and the hinge mounting plate issue. There are no other parts involved so this is a product issue. The 2nd just about shows where I trimmed the bulkhead to make it, and the hinge mounting, fit.
The 3rd is the springs sent to me. One had too many coils on one end and once cut off the main coil was too long and stopped the hinge working. A bit more cutting and bending and I got it working.
