STAGE 55 – THE FRONT ASSEMBLY

PICTURE 12

In this stage we get:

Cross Wrench

Frame Axle 72.5mm

Frame Axle 77.5mm

We also need to recover:

Stage 32 – Front Wheel

Stage 4 – Front Brake Disc

Stage 23 – Front Wheel Hub

Stage 41 – Front Assembly

PICTURE 13

We need to go searching for the front brake disc and Front Wheel Hub.

PICTURE 14

Also needed is the front wheel and tyre.

PICTURE 15

We press fit the front brake disc into place on the wheel. This is quite a tight fit but it does need to be pressed well into place otherwise the wheel assembly will not fit between the front forks.

PICTURE 16

The front wheel hub is just a press fit into place.

PICTURE 17

We then take the front assembly, again this has been safely stored away to prevent any damage to it.

PICTURE 18

The wheel is then placed between the front forks and the axle passed through the whole assembly and secured with the supplied nut.

STAGE 56 – THE REAR WHEEL

PICTURE 19

In this stage we get:

Rear Wheel

Until we get the rear tyre in Stage 59 this part is just stored away as there is nothing to do in this stage.

And so, ends this month’s update.

Its really nice to now have 2 major parts assembled and it allowed me to re-cycle some of the many boxes all of these parts have been stored in.

Until the next time Stay Safe and Happy Modelling.

Little bit behind posting at the moment due to a mailing issue.

Had the next set of Harley and lambo parts last week but no build guide in either pack.

I did report it and they have said it should be easy to resolve but not received snything as yet.

I could just build the parts from the official online one but hoping to get the proper instruction books.

Jaguar i have not posted as mine is nothing exceptional but had that paclk as well last week so on that one its just one more pack and its finished.

Mayflower i was going to post but there was a problem uploading pictures, now resolved i see. That is coming along well but slow. Nearly have the lower hull sealed with the first plank layer. Aiming to post some more on that at the weekend as we have the bank holiday and i also managed to get Tuesday as a days leave.

Next update expected shortly.

Had pack 18 arrive last week but no build guide (same problem with my Lambo pack).

Could follow the official build but the harley is confusing as it calls out parts that are not sent for for several packs hence.

Customer services have confirmed both lambo and harley build guides have been sent.

SATURDAY 06TH JUNE - HARLEY DAVIDSON FLSTF “FAT BOY”

PACK 18

Well a real frustrating month with the parts arriving early May along with my Lamborghini parts but neither pack had the assembly booklets.
Have tried 3 times now to get them sent and despite being told they have been sent still nothing has arrived.

I held off trying to build this stage as the instructions do call out parts that have yet to be supplied or has you pulling in parts from earlier packs and it can become somewhat “confusing”.

However, looking through the various kits this morning I noticed that all of the build guides are online so using that I have progressed with Pack 18.

STAGE 57 – ASSEMBLING THE TRANSMISSION CASE

PICTURE 1

In this stage we get:

Gear Change Pedal

Rubber Covers for the gear pedals

Sprocket

1 x Type U Screw

PICTURES 2, 3, 4, & 5

We also need the following parts:

From Stage 58 – Gear Rod

From Stage 58 – Drive Belt Cam

From Stage 27 – Transmission Case

From Stage 29 – Transmission Case

From Stage 30 – Drive Belt

4 x Type F Screws

PICTURE 6

This is were I finally get to understand what these “clicky” switches are all about. It seems when you have installed the gear change lever these provide the “sound/Feel” of changing gears.

PICTURES 7 & 8

We start by fitting the Gear Rod through the hole in the Transmission Case.

PICTURE 9

We then take the Drive Belt Cam and passing a “F” type screw through this we secure it to the Gear Rod. Little bit fiddly trying to hold it all together while fitting the screw in place.

PICTURE 10

We then take the Sprocket, which is very nicely painted and packaged, for an item that will not be seen.

PICTURES 11 & 12

The sprocket is then placed over the peg on the Transmission Case and then the Drive Belt is put over the sprocket.

PICTURE 13

The 2 halves of the transmission case are then screwed together using 3 x Type F screws.

STAGE 58 – MOUNTING THE TRANSMISSION CASE

PICTURE 16

In this stage we get:

Drive Belt Cam (used in the previous Stage 57)

Gear Rod (used in the previous Stage 57)

Gear Change Pedal Support

Gear Change Pedal Cam

Harley Davidson Fender Plate

Gear Change Pedal Nut

2 x type F screws

We also need the following parts:

From Stage 54 – Frame with Engine

From Stage 57 – Transmission Case

PICTURE 14

The transmission casing is then fitted to the frame and secured into place (arrowed) using 2 more Type F screws.

PICTURE 15

And this is how the frame looks with the Transmission Case installed.

The part is now “a toe breaker” weighing in at an impressive 2.093 Kg

STAGE 59 – THE GEAR CHANGE PEDAL

PICTURE 21

In this stage we get:

Tyre for The Rear Wheel

PICTURE 17

We also need the following parts:

From Stage 57 – Gear Change Pedal

From Stage 57 – Type U Screw

From Stage 57 - Rubber Covers for The Pedals

From Stage 58 – Cam for gear change pedal

From Stage 58 – Gear Change Pedal Support

PICTURE 18

The Rubber Pedal Covers are a press fit but you do need to note they are keyed with the peg being a “D” shape.

PICTURE 19

The pedal is then put into the hole in the support.

PICTURE 20

We then add the cam to the back of this assembly and secure all 3 component parts together with the Type “U” screw.

So, for this time that completes this pack.

Still frustrated by the fact the build guide has not arrived so that is some more chasing to be done next week.

Until the next time Stay Safe and Happy Modelling.

SATURDAY 13TH JUNE - HARLEY DAVIDSON FLSTF “FAT BOY”

PACK 19

PCTURES 1 & 2

From what I have no learnt it appears build guides are now being left out of the monthly packs with the intention the builder downloads the instructions from the model site itself.

Yesterday I received the next instalments of the Lamborghini (no build guide in that one) and pack 19 of the Harley and in that pack, there is a build guide.

It’s a shame I never received one for the Harley last month as these are really good in as much as you get the build instructions but you also get the history and details of other full-size bikes produced by Harley.
Anyhow I guess what will be, will be as they say.

STAGE 60 – FITTING THE GEAR CHANGE PEDAL

PICTURE 3

In this stage we get:

Two Pillion Footrests (Yippy = at long last. These were called out some 3 packs back but only just appeared in this pack).

The Switch for the Tail Light

1 x Type K Screw

2 x Type F Screw

PICTURE 4

We also need the following parts:

From Stage 59 – Gear Change Pedal Assembly

From Stage 58 – Frame with Engine

PICTURES 5 & 6

The gear change pedal assembly is attached here and secured in place using 1 x Type F screw.

PICTURES 7, 8 & 9

The instructions then tell us to attached the gear change rod but I found this much easier to place over the peg on the gear change lever being screwing that part into place.

You are then told to use “nut K” which is really just a plastic washer. This is very fiddly as you need to get this over the peg as can be seen in Picture 8.

STAGE 61 – THE SWINGARM

PICTURE 10

In this stage we get: (and use none of these parts this time)

Transmission Housing

Fuel Tap

Rear Fender Reflectors

We also need the following parts:

PICTURES 11, 12 & 13

From Stage 31 – Left Side of the Swingarm with Belt Guard

From Stage 60 – Engine Block

From Stage 26 – Deflector

From Stages 49 & 53 – Right Side of the Swingarm with the brake and the support for the Rear Shock Absorbers.

PICTURE 14

We start by pulling the drive belt through and then pass it around the belt guard.

We then have to locate the Deflector over the 3 pegs ensuing it’s the correct way round allowing the belt to sit in the Deflector cut-out.

PICTURE 15

The shock absorber support bracket is installed next. Again, this is just a press fit over the peg on the swingarm.

PICTURE 16

“wishing for a third hand” we then place the second half of the swingarm over the whole assembly.

None of this is screwed together so great care needed so that the whole assembly does not fall apart.

STAGE 62 – COMPLETING THE SWINGARM

PICTURE 17

In this stage we get: (but again do not use at this stage)

Red Tail Light Cover

Base and Cable for The Tail Light

PICTURE 18

We also need the following parts:

From Stage 53 – The Support for the Right Pillion Footrest

From Stage 55 & 60 – The 77.5mm Axle (from stage 55) the Pillion footrests and a Type F Screw (From Stage 60) – in fact you need 2 x type F screws as BOTH pillion footrests have been supplied with this pack and both will need fitting now.

PICTURE 19

So, we line up the Swingarm assembly with the hole in the frame and this, along with the pillion footrest, are secured into place using the 77.5mm axle rod.

PICTURE 20

We can now make use of the stand that was supplied way back in Stage 39. Its actually a very good stand and fits the base of the bike extremely well so very happy with this part as you would NOT want this bike tipping over.

PICTURE 21

And while supplied with this Pack, but called out in earlier build stages, we can at last fit the Tail Light Switch.

Quite fiddly again as we have attached so many parts before getting this part. In the end I found it easier to remove the gear pedal bracket to get easier screwdriver access to fix this switch into place.

And for Pack 19 that is all we have had to do.

Mostly a case of bringing together some of the previously assembled sub-assemblies so rather pleased I have reached that stage now as its all beginning to take shape very nicely.

Until the next time Stay Safe and Happy Modelling.
